Client Genealogy – Donor Genealogy

Have you ever figured out where your major donors come from? I call it Donor Genealogy,  and it’s a private sector marketing technique that may be useful to your organization. It means working backwards through your donor list, to see the ultimate source of your major donors. It’s a great way to engage board members and past presidents with institutional memory in helping you focus your dollars and energy where they will be most productive.  This article talks a bit about it; if you want to learn more, feel free to contact me or give me a call at Bloom Consulting!

  • Dear Susan,
Your leadership in the non-profit sector is invaluable, I love your “Donor Geneology” coined reference and strategy. Institutional memory is a cornerstone of our fundraising here at the American Heart Association, and we have found it to be extremmely valuable in donor retention and new business.
    Best to you,
    Stacey Dowdle
